About the artist

Amal Al Gurg is a Graphic-Inspired Emirati artist who also enjoys calligraphy and design. Her current collection of work (Reflections 2017- ongoing) is based on mirroring and repeating Arabic calligraphic letters and words, in return engaging the viewer in finding shapes and making connections to the reflections within the repetitions.

Al Gurg is a Graphic Designer by profession. She ventured into the world of Calligraphy in 2010 following the teachings of Master Calligraphers, Majid Al Yousef and Wissam Shawkat. This led to a passion for letters and forms and the persistence to perfect them through constant practice and repetition.

She enjoys reading and knitting; or doing both at the same time, when she’s not practicing calligraphy and designing.

Amal is a full-time mother of three who is based in Dubai, UAE.
